Torch of Life Inspiration

In remembrance of Janice E. Whatley

This is for you, God Mother. I hope it makes you proud. 

There is no one word to describe you. You never put yourself first, but always gave of your time and resources, making it your life’s mission to see someone else succeed. You dedicated your life to helping people, especially young people, fulfill your vision of every person living up to the potential that God gives to every human life. The reason you especially loved working with youth was because you realized that it is the precious young people who will become tomorrow’s leaders. It was your genuine passion and love for them that was the greatest testimony of your life.

I know that you loved the “Torch of Life” Training Program for the simple reason that it equips young men and women with the skills they need to succeed in the world’s ever-changing job market. You understood that it is critical that they receive such skills to be effective in whatever field they decide to enter.

You had such a wonderful impact on my own life. As your God-son, you taught me to have a relationship with God based on love, rather than religion. You taught me to travel the path through life’s hard times with prayer and thanksgiving. You taught me the wisdom of God, and how to tap into that wisdom. You taught me how to believe in myself, and to never give up. Part of my success has come from your influence. I will never forget that. Because of you, I will fulfill my purpose and destiny.
